Wonderful clinic, very kind and friendly staff. My ol lady got a brand new baby puppy, I’m on the mainland and she lives in Volcano, right on the line of Pahoa. The house backs up to miles of deep jungle with lava tubes and mongoose and lord knows what other harmful things to a human. let alone a baby angel puppy. Mochi, baby puppy angel, arrived without shots and vulnerable so my miss was carying him everywhere. We called Pahoa animal clinic but they had a waiting list and it was over a month at earliest but not probable. Next closest clinic was Big island Pet Care Center of Keaau. They said we needed to go to their site and explained how exactly to fill out a form that once received they would call her back. I was worried about time and wouldn’t you know it they called and said they could see Mr. Mochichi by Monday, which was one or two business days from when I called! I was advised by my little Ms that they were very thorough and efficient. Truly kind loving people. The reason for four stars is they may offer a series of helpful preventative treatments ect that you could get to help your puppy or pet. They charge for everything which is completely understandable, just make sure you go in knowing what your needs are for your pet as she left with a much heftier bill than was actually needed or expected for simple run of the mill shots to help Mochichi grow up healthy in such a unique environment. Very good place nonetheless and we appreciate the timely manner in which her pup was seen. They saved the day and put the worrying to an end. It’s like 15 min further too. Not bad at all 👏. Thank you guys!

I have been a loyal client at this veterinary clinic for the past two years, spending a significant amount of money to ensure the health of our pets. However, my recent experience here has been absolutely appalling, and I feel compelled to share my frustration.

I don’t know if there’s been a change in management, but the level of care and professionalism has completely deteriorated. I called in to have my cat seen because he was displaying the same concerning symptoms that our older cat showed before passing away a year ago. I was quoted $150 for the visit.

However, when my husband called back just two minutes later to confirm we were on our way (we live just four minutes away), they suddenly increased the price to $300 because they claimed it was an emergency after visit. We arrived just before 3pm, and their office doesn't close until 4pm, so there was no reason for this drastic change.

When we arrived, they refused to see our cat altogether, despite our explanation that we had been initially told the cost would be $150. They were dismissive and rude, showing zero concern for our pet’s wellbeing. It became clear that they were more interested in charging us extra fees than actually helping our animal.

I strongly urge anyone who truly cares about their pet to avoid this clinic. They’ve shown themselves to be nothing but dishonest, unkind, and uninterested in the health of your animals. This place is all about making money, and they’ve completely lost sight of the compassionate care that a veterinary clinic should provide.

I can't express enough how wonderful this veterinarian clinic is. We feel so blessed to have had such a caring experience during a very trying time with our little kitty. From start to finish, beginning with the receptionist, to seeing Kylee, we were held in very loving hands and were helped with gracious and attentive support. I highly recommend taking your beloved four legged family member here. They truly care.

The doctors here are very special.
The last two times I've found injured or neglected dogs they managed to fit me in and get the animals all the care they needed to be healthy again.
They are definitely animal lovers, and I'm grateful every day for the help they have given my two new companions.

My dogs foot doubled in size overnight. I called saturday morning for an emergency appointment. The office called back and said the vet determined this wasn't an emergency without ever even looking at my dog. My dog is an established patient there. Thank God for Kilauea Vet. She got the antibiotics she needed and some pain relief.

We needed help getting our beloved fur baby of eight years to be able to fly to our new home with us. He was diagnosed as having heartworms but otherwise in perfect health. We took him to Big Island Pet Care Center to get his health inspection within the 10 days needed to fly a dog. We are flying him to Oregon, which does not have any restrictions on heartworms. He is healthy but she refused to sign the health certificate based on her own capitalistic morals. She wanted us to start a round of medication that WILL reduce his life expectancy IF IT DOESN’T KILL HIM. I wanted to start him on Ivermectin which research has shown to sterilize the worms and shorten the life of the worms. He would be non-transmissible and it would shorten the life cycle of the worms themselves. She coldly refused and said she would prefer us to take him to an animal shelter or foster care center. She’d rather split up the family and risk his life on the newest most toxic treatment than allow us to treat him more safely with family around.

What kind of awful heartless vet does that?
