Storytime: A stray orange cat followed my kids home one day. It was limping, dirty, and skinny. The cat was so sweet I was able to bath her, trim her nails and clean her ears but she kept trying to lead me somewhere (like she was lost) she would stop by a car and assume I knew the way.. I didn’t. I felt do bad for her and I knew she was once owned because of her sweet demeanor. Long story short.- one week and a half later I tried to take her to the vet only to be told that tipped eared cats are microchipped and they cant touch her or help her.. only the caretaker or owner can. They suggested the Humane Society. Normally Im not for sending strays to the humane society because they belong to colonies but this cat did not fit that description at all. She was searching for someone. When I got to the humane society they explained the 5 day process and what happens afterwards if the pet is healthy or not. I called and left a message that if owner didn’t get her Id take her. That Sweet cat didn’t have to stay 24 hours there. I was on the website watching her status like a hawk and her picture disappeared by 3ish the next day. I am So happy the Owner found her cat The cat was Searching for something.. this made me cry. Thank you for reuniting this lost cat to its loved one. She is an Amazing sweet feline. Scruffy looking but best soul ever. Such an amazing ending. Thank you Humane Society for reuniting the pet and its owner. (Ewa Beach) location.

Volunteer was very knowledgeable about cats/kittens. I was there with my 6 year old granddaughter and we both enjoyed it immensely !!

Forget about paying $30 to visit a cat cafe. You can visit the humane society for free and pet all the cats. The cats here are way more friendly than those pure bred bougie cats at the cat cafes. You can even adopt a cat if you really like them. 10/10 would recommend petting the cats here.

Honolulu location: Facility was clean. Animals seemed well cared for. Many volunteers walking dogs. However, employees behind the counter lack personality, customer service, or motivation. Felt like I was speaking to zombies.

Update: Went to the Ewa location. Wow! Really nice set up! Employees were happy, energetic, and informative! Adopted our new baby!!

Adopted a cat here for my dad. Came on a Friday at an hour after opening. Parking was pretty full, but got lucky parking on the side street lot. Checked out the cat house: worker girl communicated well and was friendly enough. We took awhile visiting all of the cats and putting them through our stringent interview process. About 1.5 hours later, we decided and “checked in” via the QR code. From that moment, I think we waited almost 2 hours as the staff helped a queue of people in front of us. Only reason I remember this is because I was under the impression that adopting wouldn’t take long, and I thought I’d be able to squeeze in 9 holes in a Friday afternoon.

I think part of the problem is that the the staff is not making proper use of the QR system and website. It’s either that, or it’s the 3rd party website problem, but I N don’t think so. The system is similar to the one Genki Sushi uses where you check in your party via website, then you are given your place, and how many people are in front of you. At the HHS, when we checked in, the site said there were 3 people in front of us. As the 2 hours ticked by, we continually checked our place and the 3 never changed.

Now why is this an issue? The site gives a good indication of how long the wait will be. No one likes waiting, but they’ll be less upset if you give them an idea of how long you need to wait. HHS actually makes it worse by having you check in, then give you false info via the website.

4-stars for the staffs love of animals. Yeah they might not be the most efficient and getting new pet owners out the door, but you can tell that they genuinely care about the animals.

I would definitely come back to adopt another pet, I just know to block off my entire day.

I give props to these workers: you can tell they love animals. Everyone from the ladies

The Hawaiian Humane Society is doing an excellent job caring for lost and found pets.
Our cat went missing, so I visited the HHS. The staff took me to see all of the found cats they were caring for, in hopes of finding ours. The HHS also has a web site to post your lost pets photo, and to post the contact information for the owner.
The staff was excellent, very caring, and helpful in providing ideas to help us find our cat.
Good news, we did locate our cat using the HHS staff’s idea to mail out flyers with the cats photo.
