Stayed here for a week and had an amazing time!
Stayed in a one bedroom apartment and it was very cute! It has a little fire place you could use if you wanted to(you buy the wood from the general store). It had a couch(pull out), and end tables and a chair. The shower was walk in and huge! There was a microwave, a mini fridge, and a coffee pot.
The whole camp was nice, there were lots of things to do (bowling, pool tables, small arcade area, mini theater area), and there were a few places to eat too. All the staff we encountered were so polite and chill.
With the camp being inside the National Park it was so cool to be so close to the volcano while it was erupting. It's like a four minute drive to the steam vents and the Crater that erupts. The downside is the park is really out of the way of everything. You're gonna drive 45ish minutes to get back to town depending on traffic.
All in all it was a great stay. Would definitely stay again.

Best hotel I've ever stayed at. We got a one bed, the cheapest room and it had a bedroom and a living room which was nice. Super close to trails, on the Crater rim of Kilauea. And free breakfast in the morning for up to two guests. Great experience

My only suggestion, get more shirt sizes at the shop! Super cool designs but only xls

The Kīlauea Military Camp serves as a fantastic temporary Welcome Center for Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park while the Kīlauea Visitor Center is under renovation. The park rangers are very helpful, and the Hawaiʻi Pacific Parks Association store offers a great selection of items. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., it’s a convenient and welcoming stop for information and supplies. Highly recommend visiting!

The rooms are fine, and I love the "camping" feel. The beds, my goodness! Are the mattresses from 1970? The worst sleep I have had...the springs are completely collapsed, they squeak with the slightest movement, and the pillows feel like cinder blocks. The breakfast at the rim grill...oh boy, I wouldn't pay 5 bucks...simply awful. It is almost crimminal to visit a place with so much potential missing on so many of the basic notes. Won't be back, even though we loved staying on the rim. A big shout out for the great service at the lava lounge...the cheeseburgers and onion rings were fantastic!!

The location was great, right in the park. Good parking near where we were staying. We were in a one-bedroom apartment and were happy to get a queen bed. Website says they could give you queen or double and you can’t reserve which you prefer. The bedroom was clean and cozy. Living room was medium sized with a large mini-fridge and small microwave. We were only here two days so didn’t check out all the facilities, but the cafe in the rec center was good. All the workers were helpful. Furniture in 36 B was old but in decent condition, except the sofa which was creaky and smelled. We liked having the sink outside the bathroom. Good value for money.

We come here every year from Kona. I highly recommend getting the bigger units, it's a lot more comfortable than the small ones. The beds are hard in the small unit and much better in the larger ones. They have a bowling alley, food and a little park area for kids. It's right next to the national Park.
It's a great place to stay with family and friends.

I stayed here for over a week with a few friends and their families. We rented multiple rooms and cottages. Be warned that this MWR location is aged and falling apart. The rooms have broken heaters and ancient beds hard as a rock. In room Electronics and outlets are very limited. The washing machines and dryers cost a minimum of $20 after you buy soap and 2 dryer cycles "as the dryer doenst work to well". The complimentary breakfast is absolutely terrible. All the juice tastes as if it was mixed with half water. The eggs are overcooked and are constantly out of items like breads, yogurts, milk, etc. The breakfast makes an army chow hall seem like fine dining. When you try to buy al a cart items, the prices are absolutely absurd.

I'm not sure why this place has been left to waste under obvious terrible leadership. It was once a wonderful MWR location, but that is sadly not the case anymore. The location is beautiful outside and well maintained. Sitting in the national park is a great location. The gym is very limited and has a bunch of machines in need of repairs.

The price is a bonus as they beat all local prices but only in the category of room pricing. Everything else is absurdly priced almost to drive customers away. We went to rent a grill, and they wanted almost $50 for a day rental with cleaning fee and utensils. If you have stayed at other MWR locations even in Jawaii or use base facilities, you will find this is not normal the was this place operates.

The staff that works there is very friendly and helpful but clearly overworked by management and not enough staff in general.

Finally, this place has great potential to be great again. But it needs a lot of work and price changes from its current state.
