Rented a pontoon boat from Marine Corps Base Hawaii, MCBH and visited the Kaneohe Bay Sandbar, a must do if visiting Oahu. The MWR staff was awesome, very helpful. You have to take the online training and test then schedule an on the water test. The on the water testing is done on Saturdays and I think Tuesdays and Thursdays during the week. The on the water testing involves actually taking a trip out to the sand bar and seeing the boundaries you are authorized to visit. The bay has a lot of reefs and this ride really helps to familiarize you the hazards. Once you complete the training you can rent the boats. The MWR also has everything you need to be out on the water, kayaks, paddle boards, coolers can be rented at the same location and they sell ice drinks etc. we anchored near the first yellow boundary marker and to the right of that marker we snorkeled around a marked reef on the edge of the sand bar, saw several turtles and small fish. The MWR has staff out on a boat in the bay watching the rental boats just to make sure they are being safe and not heading for any trouble spots and are a phone call away if you need help. So even for novice boaters this is a safe trip. The sand bar at the tide we visited was was 1-3 ft deep. Absolutely beautiful with the mountains as a backdrop. Water there is very calm made for a very relaxing trip. Being retired and being able to utilize these resources worldwide is an awesome benefit!!

Platoon Captain Tom followed directions explicitly to our rendezvous with the "other" platoon boats. Our Pickleball Thai team, whipped up impressive gourmet Thai cuisine. No Alcohol Allowed, by the way.

Rented a pontoon boat here. Son took certification. Boat worked good and was ready to go. Showers outside. Boat ramp. Picnic tables. Have carts here to get your stuff from the parking area to the boat.

Place used to be awesome but kinda going downhill with increasing prices, old/worn out rentals, and a couple rude employees. Last time we rented a pontoon the employee searched our bags which is fine. But he got way too aggressive with it, snatching and rifling through everything. Ended up dropping my wife's bag and spilling most of it out. No apology or help picking it up, just moved onto the next bag. I'm sure he was just in a hurry but dude needs to chill.

Bo was our instructor for the boating certification class. He was patient and thorough. I don’t know of anywhere else on Oahu where you can rent pontoon boats, especially for such a low price. DoD cardholders only. Once you complete the course you can rent boats to go hang out on the sandbar. This was a fun experience for us.
