While our son was off at fishing camp, my husband and I decided to stay in St. Pete to celebrate my 40th birthday. I thought it would be cool to try salt water fishing since I’ve only ever gotten to fish in fresh water, being from Cleveland, Ohio.

The experience my husband and I had with Captain Randy and his crew was incredible. On our trip, there was definitely a wide range of people of different ages and from different areas of the country and everyone was having a great time and catching fish which was a ton of fun! The crew was super personable and encouraging and gave me the perfect lesson on how to use the salt water reel since it was my first time.

After the trip, the crew filleted our fish and initially we thought we would not be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor out on the water (since we did not have access to a stove) but the crew had a great solution —— Hook and Cook at Willy’s Burgers —- (Don’t let the name confuse you, they PERFECTLY cooked the fish my husband and I caught)

Went out for an 8 hour trip for the first time and done. Numerous 4 hours trips in the past. It was awesome and every spot picked by Randy and the crew produced lots of fish for everyone. Just awesome and looking forward to the next outing.

This is a good place to go especially for a beginner. The guys are really nice and helpful! I caught so many fish so it was fun but at the end when it’s time to go I felt like I was held hostage a little too long. It ran over so I had to extend my parking meter twice and I felt like it could have been avoided if they didn’t do all this other stuff on the way back. I hate to complain after what a nice time we had but that last bit with the stopping and going the long way around and the speech in front of the celebrity condos was too much.

This is our 2nd time fishing with Captain Randy. He is so personable and friendly. The 1st time we fished was 5 years ago and he had my son thinking he actually remembered him (he may have?). He was thrilled that he was remembered. We caught 6 keepable fish and had them for dinner that night.

Capt Randy and his team — Capt John and deckhand Landon (Randy’s son) — are an absolutely professional crew who were a pleasure to be around. They were punctual, communicated great, charged an incredibly fair price, and we caught a ton of fish. I would do it again in a heartbeat, and recommend anyone to come out; experienced anglers and novices. Randy, John, and Landon were all patient and gentle with the kids, highly energetic and enthusiastic, very attuned to safety measures, and all about having fun. More than all that — Randy is an upright man who’s done a lot for his community by way of caring for orphans and the disenfranchised. That a good man would run a good business to do good to others is a precious thing. Go sail on Miss Pass-a-Grille! You won’t regret it!

Review of Our Recent Fishing Excursion

I recently booked a last-minute fishing excursion for my 11-year-old son and me. My son is an avid fisherman and has always dreamed of ocean fishing, so I thought this would be a fantastic experience. Bottom line: yes, book this trip without hesitation.

I reserved the excursion just two days in advance and was unsure what to expect. Based on online reviews, I anticipated a good experience but was still a bit nervous. We arrived at the pier an hour early, and initially, no one was around. However, a quick call to the provided number reassured me, explaining that the captain would meet us and handle the check-in process.

The morning was cloudy and slightly windy but nothing too severe. The captain arrived, greeted everyone individually, and explained the weather situation. He checked the beach conditions and informed us the seas were a bit rough, offering us the choice to proceed. Thankfully, everyone decided to go ahead.

The captain gave a thorough overview of how to use the fishing rods and other equipment. We set out and traveled for about an hour before he selected our fishing spot. His extensive knowledge of the waters and prime fishing areas was evident. The deckhands were incredibly helpful, guiding everyone and assisting with any issues. We didn’t need to bring anything ourselves.

Once we started fishing, the bites came almost immediately, and we had a blast. Everyone on the boat caught something, making it a thrilling experience. We fished for about three hours, with the captain finding another productive spot later on, where we had even more success. We also spotted dolphins, a shark, and other fascinating marine life.

At the end of the trip, our catch was strung up, cleaned, and we were given the option to keep the fish. The captain provided a list of nearby restaurants that would cook our catch. We chose Hurricanes, conveniently located within walking distance from the boat, and the meal was fantastic!

Overall, I’d rate this experience a 10 out of 10. The weather might lower the score to a 7 out of 10, but that’s beyond their control, so it’s not a fair critique. My advice is to be cautious if the weather is questionable, though the captain's expertise ensured our safety and comfort at all times.

We will definitely be back and eagerly look forward to our next adventure!

We took out 6 year old out and had a great time! She caught her own fish! You couldn’t ask for a better crew. They made the experience by far and the fish were a bonus! Till next time! Fish on!!
