PED IM Healthcare was referred to me by Medicare. Today was my first experience with Dr. Wilson as my new PCP. The staff was wonderful and pleasant from the moment I walked through their doors!! The Medical Assistant was very knowledgeable and kind he even gave me an ekg. As a first time patient, I was impressed with Dr. Wilson and the services they provide; i.e., they provide lab work!!

Wonderful facility. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Great atmosphere. Med Assistant Seth was excellent in setting up before doctor came in. Dr. Wilson was thorough and so knowledgeable and actually showed care and passion for her job. Just what I was hoping for in finding the right care specialist for my health.

I absolutely love my son’s doctor (Ally), but I’ve had multiple bad experiences with the office staff.

My son is 1 year old and had his 12-month checkup on Tuesday. They wanted to give him 3 vaccines that day, and I was originally going to do it, but they mentioned there was a chance he might not feel very well afterward. I had a full schedule that day and didn’t want to risk him feeling bad, so the doctor we saw that day (not Ally, as she wasn’t available) told me I could just come back for a nurse visit to do the vaccines.

I’ve done this once before a few months ago. We currently pay out of pocket because we’re in between insurance plans, and his new insurance doesn’t start until January. Last time, they only charged me for the vaccines, about $20 total ($10 each).

So I scheduled a nurse visit for my son to get his 3 vaccines today. When I went up to the front desk to check in, they told me to have a seat because they needed to check how much it was going to cost first. I said okay and sat down, though I was already wondering why this wasn’t figured out ahead of time.

About 5 minutes later, the front desk girl called me back up and asked for my insurance. I explained that we have Medicaid, but it’s a share of cost plan, so I usually just pay out of pocket, I just wanted to make sure his Medicaid was still on file. She told me it was showing as inactive and said she needed to look into things with billing and would call me back up.

About 15 minutes later, she called me back up and told me it would be $30 total for the vaccines. I handed her my debit card and said I had no problem paying that, but mentioned again that the Medicaid shouldn’t be inactive and that I could send an updated copy of my son’s Medicaid card. She didn’t swipe my debit card, handed it back to me, and said she needed to check on something else. So I sat back down again.

Another 20 minutes went by before she called me back up. At this point, I had been waiting about 40 minutes just to be seen for a quick nurse visit. She then told me, “Actually, it’s going to be $80 because we have to charge you for an office visit too.” I was honestly shocked because the last time they only charged me for the vaccines, so I said that. Another woman chimed in and said she understood my frustration but that they have to charge for the nurse’s time.

I told them I would have just had all of the vaccines done at his previous appointment if I had known this, and that no one told me I’d be charged for an entire office visit just to come back for a less-than-5-minute vaccine appointment. They said there was nothing they could do, so I left and will just get the vaccines done at his 15-month appointment instead.

I was incredibly frustrated, and it honestly left a bad taste in my mouth about this office. The front desk girl was nice, but this isn’t the first time I’ve had weird or frustrating experiences with the office staff. In fact, it was the last vaccine office visit that I went to where the front desk forgot to check me in when I was there 10 minutes early, and I ended up waiting over an hour before she apologized to me and told me they forgot to let them know I was here.

EDIT: Below was my review from the first visit. I spoke with management on the phone the day after my first visit and explained what happened. I was pretty upset, but she was very apologetic and offered to make it right with another visit. I scheduled that visit for today and it went surprisingly well. We saw Holly and let me just say that she was amazing! She addressed all the concerns I had for my son and gave us a lot of reassurance. I’m glad I gave it another shot at this office because I think moving forward we will be happy seeing her. The only thing I have to say is that the waiting room is very small and super chaotic with all the kiddos running around in such a small space. But the front office staff is nice and we were in and out pretty quick.

I showed up 15 minutes early for my son’s new patient appointment. This was an appointment for a serious concern, they were aware of that. I filled out all paperwork online days before the appointment. Insurance was verified days before appointment as well. 10 minutes after my sons appointment time after waiting there for almost 30 minutes the front office calls me up and proceeds to tell me that because I didn’t change the provider on my insurance card they can’t see us. I said I can call and change it, it only takes 5 minutes I’ve done it for myself before. They said no and that it was already past the appointment time. I’m sorry but I made this appointment weeks ago and nobody wanted to mention they couldn’t see us if it wasn’t changed? They asked to reschedule and I said absolutely not. That’s a horrible look for a first visit and can only imagine how other visits will go. Not the worst thing in the world but very inconvenient and now my important concern for my son will be pushed out further once I can find a new office.

Holly is Amazing. We recently had an appt. With my 16 year old daughter and we all know how teens can be. She navigated my daughter’s case like a pro and she was very pleasant. She explained everything so well and also showed genuine compassion. My kids have been patients with Dr. St. Martin since birth, but we always request Holly now since Doc is Pretty busy. Our appointment was at 8:45 am and we weren’t called until 9:30 am that is the only reason I am giving a 4 instead of 5.
