This pains me to write this review & I've been putting it off for a while, but Pet Specialists of Austin deserves all the recognition!
My girl was sick & not acting herself. I took her in & right before handing her off to the vet tech she passed away naturally. Ultimately, I lost my beloved childhood best friend Holly of 17 years & they gave me all the time I needed with her. They placed her body in a cozy, made-up box (coffin) so we could take her back home.
A week or so later, I found this card in my mailbox. I will forever be grateful for the amazing staff who helped us through this hard time. Her collar, pictures & this card sits in her memorial box. We miss her dearly. Thank you, Pet Specialists of Austin, for your love & compassion ❤️

The Oncology Team provided me with top notch care. When my dog was diagnosed with cancer with my primary vet, Pet Specialist went out of their way to fit me into an already jam packed schedule in a timely manner. The team was always kind and communicative. I am lucky enough that my dog is in remission and they have bought me precious time. They work with you to make the care as affordable as possible. Dr Shepard is kind, compassionate, and damn good at her job. I know we still have a long road to go but I trust her and the onco team to provide my dog with the best quality of life to the end.

I don’t think anyone has a great time having to suddenly take their furry family member to an emergency vet or face the finical shock of it. My dog Bowie had an emergency out of no where and right after I just gotten my car fixed, so my funds were low. Dana who greeted me kindly helped me out and was very comforting and patient when speaking to me and my concerns all around this hard situation. Thank you very much dana with making this scary experience so much easier for me and my pup!

Update; had to come back sadly but Sara helped me out and was so kind and loving towards my pup!

I want to start by sincerely thanking each staff member who took care of my Luna during such a stressful, painful, and difficult time.

I called the clinic Wednesday morning with questions about my cat’s condition—she was vomiting and unresponsive. The moment I arrived, I was met with the same level of urgency I was expecting and hoping for. The veterinarian took the time to explain all of my options, the treatment plan, and pricing before I signed anything. I understand that veterinary care can be expensive, and while opinions may vary, I truly appreciated having a clear breakdown of costs beforehand. Making these decisions is incredibly difficult when all you want is for your pet to get better, and their transparency helped ease some of that stress.

Luna had to stay for a couple of days, and I was given every opportunity to visit, interact with her, and receive timely updates on her condition. The team kept me informed through calls, texts, and emails, ensuring I was always aware of what was happening, even though I couldn’t be with her the whole time.

During my second visit, Dr. Hartmann greeted me warmly and sat down beside me, saying, “Ask me all the questions.” In such an overwhelming situation, I had so many concerns, and as she was leaving, I kept thinking of more. Each time, she stayed and patiently answered every single one. That level of care and compassion meant the world to me.

Today, Luna is doing better, and I am beyond grateful for the kindness, professionalism, and expertise of this emergency veterinary hospital. Even in such a difficult moment, my experience was extraordinary, and I highly recommend their services.

PSA has provided excellent care for all of my babies. They have ensured that my geriatric lab, who has a lot going on with her arthritis and spinal disease, and my cancer kitty are happy and healthy. (Shout out to their fear free techs that are trained to provide care for very stressed and anxious cats like mine!). Their staff are continuously kind and attentive and I do not hesitate to recommend them to friends and family.

I have been seeing Dr Hetrick & Kelly on the Internal Medicine team at Pet Specialist of Austin for several months. My tiny pup was very ill when we first started. She had lost over 40% of her body weight, she wasn’t eating & when she did would vomit uncontrollably. Her team has worked tirelessly to diagnose & find treatment for her. Poppy loves going in for check ups- even though she has to get blood drawn each time. She squeals when we pull into the parking lot. She is treated like a complete celebrity & is carried around & cuddled the entire time she’s in the office.
This office really loves your pets & I can’t imagine Poppy being loved more or treated better anywhere else.

The vet was great. But the vet Tech was not. He had no business talking to pet owners. He didn’t have answers and instead of saying he didn’t have answers or questions he sort of made them up and contradicted himself Several times. It took me a while to get that he really had no idea about pretty much anything. I wound up saying “just tell the vet that you have a client giving you a really bad time and you can’t talk to her“. So he did and she came out. Overall they did the job but I don’t really appreciate their complex protocols of not letting you talk to the vet until you’ve waited on hold for 45 minutes For poison Control. They said that’s how it’s done everywhere though. I don’t know?
